Tonight I begin writing this post listening to the sound of
thunder and seeing the flash of lightning. It is currently 10:25 pm. The house
is quite and people are beginning to grow weary. The storm will be starting any
second now! Today was a wonderful day in Cameroon. I began the day with my
giant cup of coffee filled with evaporated milk. I always enjoy mornings here.
Usually I sit out on the beautiful balcony; it is filled with beautiful flowers
hanging off the rail. They have five whicker chairs out on the balcony, so it
really is wonderful to venture out there to see who is also sitting out there.
This morning I was with Kathleen, we enjoyed talking about the scenery all
around us. After our morning ritual out on the balcony, Katelyn, Kathleen, and I
did our usual killer workout. We have made it a mission to stay fit this year,
so we have taken it upon ourselves to do the “Insanity” workout program….do not
ask me why we are doing this, because you should see us by the end of the workout we
are all literally dripping sweat and gasping for air. After out workout, it was
time for yummy lunch! Lunch in Cameroon is a wonderful event. Usually there are
many people around the Jackson house, so whoever is around enjoys lunch made by
the wonderful cooks! There are two ladies who do all the cooking, they are very
nice ladies, and they have a gift in the kitchen! Every meal that they cook is
so flavorful and filling! It is just wonderful!
After lunch I sat down and dedicated the afternoon to work!
Yes my friends, I have begun work! I officially started a few days ago! It
really has been so exciting to begin editing and looking over the material.
Chris and Karen are having me right now look over the first five completed
lessons and correct any of the grammar or layout changes that are required. So
far I am enjoying it very much!
After work Katelyn, Kathleen, and I took a taxi and went
into town. Every Tuesday and Thursday at a community building there are
ballroom dance lessons! The girls went last week; I unfortunately was not able
to go, so this was going to be my first dance experience in Cameroon. As the
taxi driver dropped us off near our destination the heavens opened up and it
began to pour down rain. The Cameroonians hide under umbrellas and buildings when
the rain comes out because usually it only sticks around for a short amount of
time, so they just wait it out. It was a different story for us girls however!
We had to walk quite a ways to get to the dance building from where our taxi
dropped us off…and us being not the brightest of girls, we forgot to bring
umbrellas and we forgot to bring jackets. We ran for quite some time in the
pouring rain. At first we were covering our hair and faces with our
sweaters..but eventually it became useless we were all drenched to the bone.
Cameroonians were pointing and laughing yelling “Ashia,” (which is a word for
sympathy.) We continued to run throughout the streets laughing and running as
we were dripping everywhere.
Eventually we got the community center, to find out that dance
had been cancelled. We laughed it off and got a taxi back to the house. We got
home, cooked dinner, and ended the night in conversation and “legal” music
sharing J .
It really was a great day. We all shared many laughs and enjoyed one another’s
conversation. The more time I spend with the girls and with Chris and Karen,
the more I feel comfortable to be here. They really are such an amazing family.
I feel so blessed to be here with them. I know that although the last few days
have been tough dealing with accident, but I just continue to see that the Lord
has really kept us under his wing of protection.
Beatrice, the lady who was hit, has been moved to another
hospital. She has major internal damage and head trauma. They are not able to
do any surgery until she is stable enough. We are not really sure if she will
ever be well enough for the surgery. If you all could please remember to keep
Beatrice in your prayers, her husband and her family are still at the hospital
with her, so she is surrounded by her loved ones. It really is difficult to
enjoy life and live the day knowing that poor Beatrice is still seriously
wounded in the hospital. I continue to pray for her every hour. But considering
the fact that she even was able to survive the initial hit, it goes to show
that she is a very strong woman. I continue to pray that the Lord would heal
her and that she would be strong enough soon for the surgery.
The whole situation is a very messy one at that. Although
she has been wounded the Lord has blessed me and the Jackson’s with life today.
Today I was able to work on material that will be used for the teaching of
children. The Lord has continued to give me breath, and today I am working for
him. I am so thankful that he has kept me and the family safe during the whole
accident. So I need to take the day he has given me and live it for the Lord.
So please, again if you have a moment of your day to yourself.
Please, send a prayer out for Beatrice. Pray for her and her family. Again, the
more information that I find out, I will continue to keep you all posted!
(If someone is able to get this to be a prayer request for
the CBC Prayer Chain that would be lovely!)
