The Day I Got My Passport Back

Greetings!
I hope all of you out there are enjoying your week so far. I know that it is always hard to start a new week. A lot has been going on over here at the Jackson Village.
For starters, I am sad to say that slowly but surely, our puppies are all finding new homes. It is great because they are all going into new loving families, but it is so sad at the same time to see the puppies go. Luckily the Jackson’s are keeping one, so we get to enjoy of them! It will be so crazy to see how big they get! I informed Katelyn that she needs to update all of us with pictures regularly when I am back in the States.
Something else new in the medical world, I officially got my first jigger! For those who do not know what they are, they are NOT fun. A jigger is this flea type bug that lives in the dust. Because we are coming to an end to this dry season (about time!) the dust is seriously 6 inches. When we walk down the streets the dust completely covers our feet. Anyways, this time last week I woke up in the middle of the night. My foot was burning and itching. I at first thought it was just the usual mosquito bite, but the more I scratched it, the more I noticed that my foot was swollen! I turned on the light, and sure enough on my pinky toe, there was a jigger.
Now, when you think of a flea type bug, you think they just bite and move on…wrong. Jiggers actually dig into the foot and they lay eggs into the foot! (Gross right??) In order to get these guys out, you have to dig around the jigger and egg sac, and remove it from the foot. If you are not careful enough, you can burst the egg sac, and you will end up with baby jiggers in your foot. Knowing this, I decided to try to sleep through the night, and allow Lum to get the jigger out in the morning. (Lum is the person to go to when you have a jigger in your foot.)
In the morning Lum got out toothpicks, tweezers, and loads of napkins. She managed to etch along the jigger and she got the egg sac out without bursting it! The only thing I am dealing with now is a hole in my pinky toe.
I also have come down with a case of ringworm! (Whooo it just keeps on coming!)
Another update in the medical world, this last weekend the crew and some new faces went out on many hikes! One, which took us to some cliffs, ended up not being the best of ideas. We were walking all along, approaching the rocks, when out of the blue Chris got his leg stuck on some barbed wire! Thinking it was just weeds, he continued to walk, causing it t rip open…close to a vein! He literally had to sit down and put his finger into his leg. We made a little make shift tourniquet, and he seemed to be okay. He still is in pain, but he is able to walk and carry on through the day.
Waterfall Alert!
I tell ya, a lot happening in the medical world!
We ended the lovely weekend with going out to see a waterfall. It took us about 45 minutes to get to the waterfall, but it was so worth the hike. It was a really humid day, so many of us ended up just swimming in our clothes when we got to the falls! Karen, Katelyn, Ryan (he is a new friend we met a few weeks ago) and I all jumped from the cliffs into the water! It was so much fun!
To top off the great weekend, last night Chris finally handed me and Kathleen our passports back! Yes, the last time I saw my passport was the first day I got to Cameroon. Because we are staying past our visas, we had to get residential cards. Because this is Cameroon, everything takes a lot longer than it would in the States. So seven months later, our passports are back! Never thought I would be so excited to see my passport, but I am!
Overall, it was a great weekend. We meet new faces every Friday movie and a pizza night, so it is fun to make new friends, and go on crazy adventures with them!
God is so good, and it is so crazy to just see how much he cares and how much he loves us. I am going to end this little update with a passage from Jesus Calling
Seek My face, and you will find not only My presence but also My peace. To receive My peace, you must change your grasping, controlling stance to one of openness and trust. The only thing you can grasp without damaging your soul is My hand. Ask My Spirit within you to order your day and control your thoughts, for the mind controlled by the Spirit is Life and Peace.
You can have as much of Me and My peace as you want, through thousands of correct choices each day. The most persistent choice you face is whether to trust Me or to worry. You will never run out of things to worry about, but you can choose to trust Me no matter what. I am an ever-present help in trouble. Trust me, though the earth give away and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
I wish you all a wonderful Tuesday, and I cannot to see you all in a few months when I am back in the States! (I am leaving the beginning of May.)
-Sarah
